About Anne Idsal Austin
Anne Idsal Austin, the founder of Austin Legal & Public Affairs, is a nationally recognized environmental lawyer with a distinguished career in the private sector and in both federal and state regulatory roles.
Anne is committed to providing strategic counseling and policy guidance in the complex arenas of environmental and natural resources law. She relies upon her extensive subject matter expertise and relationships to help clients navigate the dynamic state and federal regulatory landscapes.
Career and Experience
Anne’s legal journey includes pivotal roles in government organizations as well as the private sector. Prior to founding Austin Legal & Public Affairs, she was an environmental partner with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, where she had the opportunity to represent regulated clients and position them for success before state and federal regulatory agencies. During her time in public service, she most recently served as the principal deputy assistant administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air & Radiation (OAR). In this role, she had a significant impact on U.S. clean air policy and regulation. Additionally, she served as the EPA Regional Administrator for Region 6, responsible for the implementation of federal environmental statutes and programs across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and New Mexico.
Before serving in the federal government, Anne held influential positions within the Texas state government, shaping environmental and energy policy at high levels. Most notably, she was the Chief Clerk and Deputy Land Commissioner for the Texas General Land Office and served as the general counsel for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Recognition and Education
Anne’s exceptional contributions to environmental law have been recognized by various institutions. She was honored by Best Lawyers for Environmental Law in 2024 and by Lawdragon as a Leading Environmental & Energy Lawyer in 2021 and 2022, as well as a Leader in Environmental Law and Leading U.S. Energy Lawyer in 2023.
Anne holds a J.D. from Baylor University School of Law and a B.A. in Politics from Washington and Lee University. She is admitted to practice in both Texas and the District of Columbia.
